The deconstruction process got serious when the orange "monster claw" showed up. Not sure what its intentions are, but it looks ominous.
When the outer wall of the vesting room was removed, mold and rot were quite evident. The construction worker said that the supporting studs crumbled when handled. There was also insect (termite? carpenter ants?) damage near the roof. Bummer! This is not a good sign. What will further probing uncover elsewhere as work progresses?
"How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your church with cement against board."
So goes the old hymn...well, at least the first line is authentic. Here the foundation forms are being erected. One can get a glimmer of how much expansion will take place as the east wall of the church is oulined by the foundation.
The large carving of Jesus looks a little lonely sans congregation. He is being prepared for removal and storage at the Luckman Place to prevent damage during remodeling. The big question is: Who will protect the carving from the creative urges of its protector, who is a sculptor? "Deliver him from temptation, O Lord. Remove far from his presence hammer, chisel, and paint. Amen."
