November of 2006 will be memorable. First, winter came early and secondly, it came charging in like a bull....18 inches of snow in some places, temperatures down to 14 degrees, and a wind chill factor down to well below zero. All night long the sound of snapping limbs and an occasional crashing of a tree could be heard. Many of us were out of power for up to two days. Ah, island life is not without its occasional adventures. The depth of the snow may not have matched the Year of the Big Snow in the mid-1990s where it got three feet deep. Nor did the wind blow like the Year of the Big Wind in 1990 where it blew gusts up to 90 mph. But for the 21st Century this will be known as the Year of the Big Snow and Chill...until it can be topped by another storm. And winter has not yet officially arrived. The following are a few pictures taken during and just after the storm.
