Construction of Community Composting Project

The first official working meeting was in February, 2018. We began disassembling the pallet-bins that had served the site for years.

An on-site fire (with blessing of Town of Friday Harbor burn permit) reduced the pallets and some of the rough vegetation.

Trimming and carving out a space for a work site continued. In addition, we were able to screen some of the existing composting material to discover rich humus! We also engaged our chipper to reduce green and brown material in readiness for layering the material that we will compost.

Great strides toward the operation of the site came with the laying of the cement foundation for the bins. Many hands made it all work!

In July, the bins were constructed by a professional, hired carpenter, and we are ready to move to the operational phase!!
